Setting: The famous haunted Krately House in Cheydinhal, first and second floors, requiring a stage with a second story where most of the action takes place.<br>
<br>
The stage is dark.<br>
<br>
There is a CREAKING noise, footsteps on the stairs, the sound of a man breathing, but still we see nothing.<br>
<br>
Then, a voice calls from above.<br>
<br>
AELVA (off stage)<br>
Hello? Is someone down there?<br>
<br>
MINESTES (off stage)<br>
Should I wake up Papa?<br>
<br>
AELVA (off stage)<br>
No... Maybe I was imagining it... <br>
<br>
A light from a lantern can be seen coming from the upstairs, and the slim form of a beautiful young girl, AELVA, descends the staircase at stage right, nervously. <br>
<br>
From the light of the lantern, we can see that we are looking at the second floor of a dusty old house, with a set of stairs going up and another one going down on stage right. An unlit stone fireplace sits at stage left. A table, a locked chest, and a wardrobe complete the furnishings.<br>
<br>
MINESTES (off stage)<br>
Aelva, what are you doing?<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
I'm just making certain... Go back to bed, Minestes.<br>
<br>
As the girl passes the table, we see a Bosmer NIRIM slide gracefully up from behind and around her field of sight, carefully avoiding the pool of light. She doesn't appear to see him as he creeps closer to her, his footsteps silent on the hard wooden floor.<br>
<br>
When he is almost on her, there is a sudden CRASH from down below. This causes the Bosmer to leap away, hiding again behind the table.<br>
<br>
The girl does not seem to notice the sound, and Nirim, peeking out from behind the table, watches her.<br>
<br>
MINESTES (off stage)<br>
Found anything?<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
No. Probably just my imagination, but I'm just going to check downstairs.<br>
<br>
MINESTES (off stage)<br>
Is there a fire? I'm cold... <br>
<br>
Aelva looks towards the long dead fireplace, and so does Nirim.<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
Of course there is. Can't you hear it crackling?<br>
<br>
MINESTES (off stage)<br>
I guess so... <br>
<br>
Aelva suddenly jumps as if she heard something which we do not. She turns her attention down the stairs to the first floor.<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
Hello?<br>
<br>
Aelva, lantern ahead of her, begins the descent. She does not seem to notice as an Imperial, THEOPHON, carrying a big bag of loot and a lantern of his own, calmly walks up right past her.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Excuse me, young lady. Just robbing you.<br>
<br>
Aelva continues her slow, nervous walk downstairs, which we can now see thanks to her light. She looks around the low-ceilinged, thoroughly looted room as the action continues upstairs<br>
<br>
Theophon's lantern provides the dim light for the second floor. <br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Why are you hiding, Nirim? I told you. They can't see you, and they can't hear you.<br>
<br>
Nirim sheepishly steps out from behind the table.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
I can't believe they're all ghosts. They seem so alive.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
That's what spooks them superstitians. But they ain't going to hurt us. Just reliving the past, the way ghosts do.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
The night they was murdered.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Stop thinking about that or you'll get yourself all willy spooked. I got all kinds of stuff on the first floor - silver candlesticks, silk, even some gold... What'd you get?<br>
<br>
Nirim holds up his empty bag.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Sorry, Theophon, I was just about to start... <br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Get to work on that chest then. That's what you're here for.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Oh yeah. I got the talent, you got the ideas... and the equipment. You refilled that lantern before we came here, right? I can't work in the dark... <br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Don't worry, Nirim. I promise. No surprises.<br>
<br>
Nirim jumps when a young boy, MINESTES, appears on the stairs. The lad creeps down quietly and goes to the fire. He acts as if he's stoking a fire, feeding it wood, poking at the embers, though there is no wood, no poker, no fire.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
We got all the time in the world, friend. No one comes near this house. If they sees our lantern light, they'll just assume it's the ghosts.<br>
<br>
Nirim begins picking the lock on a chest of drawers, while Theophon opens a wardrobe and begins going through the contents, which are mostly rotten cloth.<br>
<br>
Nirim is distracted, looking at the young boy.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Hey, Theophon, how long ago did they die?<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
About five years ago. Why you asking?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Just making conversation.<br>
<br>
As they talk, Aelva, downstairs, finally having searched the small room, acts as if she's locking the front door.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Didn't I already tell you the story?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
No, you just said, hey, I know a place we can burgle where no one's at home, except for the ghosts. I thought you was joking.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
No joking, partner. Five years ago, the Kratelys lived here. Nice people. You seen the daughter Aelva and the boy Minestes. The parents were Silenus and Dominitia, if I remembers rightly. <br>
<br>
Nirim successfully unlocks the chest and begins rummaging through it. While he does so, Ministes gets up from the 素ire,' apparently warmed up, and stands at the top of the stairs down.<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Hey!<br>
<br>
The boy's voice causes Nirim, Theophon, and Aelva to all jump.<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
Why aren't you in bed? I'm just going to check the cellar.<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
I'll wait for you.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
So, what happened?<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Oh, they was rip to piece. Halfway eaten. No one ever knew who or what did it neither. Though there was rumors...<br>
<br>
Aelva opens the door to the cellar, and goes in. The light disappears from the first floor. Ministes patiently waits at the top of the stairs, humming a little song to himself.<br>
<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
What kind of rumors?<br>
<br>
Theophon, having exhausted the possibilities in the wardrobe, helps Nirim sort through the gold in the chest.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Pretty good haul, eh? Oh, the rumors. Well, they says old lady Dominitia was a witch before she married Silenus. Gave it all up for him, to be a good wife and mother. But the witches didn't take too kindly to it. They found her and sent some kind of creature here, late at night. Something horrible, right out of a nightmare.<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Aelva? Aelva, what's taking you so long?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Ye Gods, are we going to watch them get killed, right in front of us?<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Aelva!<br>
<br>
SILENUS (off stage)<br>
What's happening down there? Stop playing around, boy, and go to sleep.<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Papa!<br>
<br>
Ministes, frightened, runs to the stairs up. Along the way, he bumps into Nirim, who falls down. The boy does not seem to notice but continues on up to the dark third floor sleeping porch, off-stage.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Are you all right?<br>
<br>
Nirim jumps to his feet, white-faced.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Never mind that! He touched me?! How can a ghost touch me?!<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Well... Of course they can. Some anyhow. You heard of ancestor spirits guarding tombs, and that ghost of the king they had in Daggerfall. If they don't touch you, what good are they ? Why you so surprised? You thought he'd move right through you, I figger.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Yes!<br>
<br>
SILENUS, the man of the house, comes down the stairs, cautiously.<br>
<br>
DOMINITIA (off stage)<br>
Don't leave us alone, Silenus! We're coming with you!<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Wait, it's dark. Let me get some light.<br>
<br>
Silenus goes to the cold fireplace, sticks his hand forward, and suddenly in his arm, there's a lit, burning torch. Nirim scrambles back, horrified.<br>
<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
I felt that! I felt the heat of the fire!<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Come on down. It's all right.<br>
<br>
Ministes leads his mother DOMINITIA down the stairs where they join Silenus.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
I don't know why you so scared, Nirim. I must say I'm disappointed. I didn't figger you for a supersitionalist.<br>
<br>
Theophon goes for the stairs up.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Where are you going?<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
One more floor to search.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Can't we just go?<br>
<br>
Nirim watches as the family of three, following Silenus and his torch, walk down towards the first floor.<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Aelva? Say something, Aelva.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
There, you see? If you don't like ghosts, third floor's the place to be. All four of 粗m are downstairs now.<br>
<br>
Theophon goes upstairs, off-stage, but Nirim stands at the top of the stairs, looking down at the family. The three look around the first floor as Aelva did, finally turning towards the cellar door.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
All... four? <br>
<br>
Silenus opens the cellar door.<br>
<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Aelva? What are you doing down in the cellar, girl?<br>
<br>
DOMINITIA<br>
You see her?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
All four, Theophon?<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
I think so... I see someone... Hello?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
What if there's five ghosts, Theophon?!<br>
<br>
Silenus thrusts his torch in through the cellar door, and it is suddenly extinguished. The first floor falls into darkness.<br>
<br>
Ministes, Dominitia, and Silenus SCREAM, but we cannot see what is happening to them.<br>
<br>
Nirim is nearly hysterical, screaming along with them. Theophon runs downstairs from the third floor.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
What is it?!<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
What if there is five ghosts?! The man, the wife, the girl, the boy... and what killed them?!<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
And what killed them?<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
And what if it's a ghost that can touch us too?! Just like the others!<br>
<br>
From the darkened first floor, there is a CREAK of a door opening, though we cannot see it. And then, there is a heavy, clawed footfall. One step at a time, coming towards the stairs.<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Don't get so upset. If it can touch us, what'd make you think it'd wants to? All the others didn't even notice we was here.<br>
<br>
Theophon's lantern dims slightly. He adjusts it carefully.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
Only... only what if it ain't a ghost, Theophon. What if it's the same creature, and it's still alive... and it ain't ate nothing since five years ago... <br>
<br>
The footsteps begin the slow, heavy stomp up the stairs, though whatever it is, we cannot see it. Nirim notices the light beginning to dim from the lantern despite Theophon frantically trying to fix it.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
You said you refilled the lamp!<br>
<br>
The light goes out entirely, and the stage is filled with darkness.<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
You promised me you refilled the lamp!<br>
<br>
More footsteps and a horrible, horrible HOWL. The men SCREAM.<br>
<br>
The curtain falls.

場面： Cheydinhalにある、幽霊が出るとして有名なKrately屋敷、その一階と二階。二階建ての舞台が必要である。ほとんどの出来事はこの内部で進行する。<br>

舞台上は暗闇。<br>
<br>
何かがきしむ音、それに続いて階段上の足音、男が呼吸する音が聞こえる。しかしまだ何も見えない。<br>
<br>
やがて、上から呼びかける声。<br>
<br>
AELVA（舞台外）<br>
もしもし？誰か下にいるの？ <br>
<br>
MINESTES （舞台外）<br>
パパを起こそうか？ <br>
<br>
AELVA（舞台外）<br>
いいえ......。きっと気のせいね......。<br>
<br>
階段の上からランタンの明りが差す。そして、美しい少女AELVAのすらりとした姿が、こわごわと舞台右手の階段を降りてくる。<br>
<br>
ランタンの明りに照らされて、我々が見ているのが埃をかぶった古い家の二階であることがわかる。舞台右手には、上への階段と下への階段が見える。舞台左手には、火の入っていない石造りの暖炉。テーブル、鍵のついたたんす、衣装だんすが備わっている。<br>
<br>
MINESTES（舞台外）<br>
Aelva、何しているの？<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
念のため確かめているだけよ......。ベッドに戻りなさい、Minestes。<br>
<br>
少女がテーブルのそばを通り過ぎた時、テーブルの後ろからBosmerのNIRIMが現れる。少女の視界と明りの照らす範囲を注意深く避けながら、しなやかな身のこなしでこっそり動いて行く。少女には見えていないらしい。Nirimは堅い木の床の上でも足音一つ立てず、少しずつ少女に忍び寄る。<br>
<br>
彼が少女の間近まで迫った時、突然、何かがぶつかる大きな音が下から聞こえる。このためBosmerははじかれたように飛びすさり、ふたたびテーブルの向こうに隠れる。<br>
<br>
少女は音に気づいた様子がない。Nirimはテーブルの向こうに顔を出し、少女を見つめる。<br>
<br>
MINESTES（舞台外）<br>
何か見つけた？<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
いいえ。たぶん気のせいでしょうけど、ちょっと下を見てくるわ。<br>
<br>
MINESTES（舞台外）<br>
火はついてる？寒いんだ......。<br>
<br>
Aelvaは長いこと消えたままの暖炉に目を向ける。Nirimもそちらを見る。<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
もちろん、ついてるわ。薪がパチパチいってるのが聞こえない？ <br>
<br>
MINESTES （舞台外）<br>
うん、聞こえる気もする......。<br>
<br>
突然、Aelvaは何か聞こえたかのように飛び上がる、しかし我々には何も聞こえない。彼女は階段下の一階に注意を向ける。<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
もしもし？<br>
<br>
Aelvaはランタンを前に差し出して降り始める。下からは、ImperialのTHEOPHONが略奪品を入れた大袋とランタンを携えて昇って来て、少女の真ん中を静かに通り抜ける。しかし彼女は気づかない様子。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
失礼、お嬢さん。ちょっとお宅の物をいただいておるだけですよ。<br>
<br>
Aelvaはそのまま、少しずつおそるおそる下に降りて行く。彼女の明りに照らされて、下の階が見えてくる。天井の低い、根こそぎ略奪された部屋を彼女は見回る。その間、上の階でも出来事が進む。<br>
<br>
Theophonのランタンの薄暗い明りが二階を照らし出す。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
Nirim、どうして隠れてるんだ？言っただろ、あいつらにはお前が見えないし、聞こえもしないんだ。<br>
<br>
Nirimはおどおどした様子でテーブルの向こうから出てくる。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
あれがみんな幽霊だなんて信じられないな。まるで生きてるみたいだ。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
そのおかげで、迷信深いやつらが怖がって逃げ出してくれるんだ。しかしあいつらが俺たちを傷つけることはない。ただ昔を生き直してるだけだ、幽霊ってのはそういうものよ。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
皆殺しにされた夜を、か。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
そんなことを考えるのはやめにしな、てめえでてめえを怖がらせてどうするんだ。一階は大漁だったぜ――銀の燭台に、絹に、それに金も少し。そっちはどうだ？<br>
<br>
Nirimはからの袋を持ち上げてみせる。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
ごめんよ、Theophon、ちょうど取りかかろうとしてたとこだったんだ......。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
そんならさっさとあのタンスから始めな。そのためにお前はここにいるんだぞ。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
わかってるよ。俺には腕があり、お前には頭がある......それに道具も。来る前にランタンの油は一杯にしてきたんだろ？暗くっちゃ俺の仕事はできないぜ......。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
心配するな、Nirim。保証する。びっくりするような事は何にも起きないさ。<br>
<br>
その時、階段の上に小さな少年MINESTESが現れたのを見て、Nirimは跳び上がる。少年はそっと降りてきて、暖炉の方へ行く。そして薪をくべ、燃えさしをつついて、火をかきたてるような仕草をする。しかし薪も、火かきも、火も存在しない。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
なあ、時間はいくらでもあるんだぜ。この家のそばには誰も近づきやしないんだから。万が一、誰かが俺たちのランタンの光を見たとしても、幽霊だと思うだけさ。<br>
<br>
Nirimはたんすの引き出しの鍵を開けにかかる。一方Theophonは、衣装だんすを開いて中身をあさる。ほとんどが腐りかけた衣類である。<br>
<br>
Nirimは落ち着かぬ様子で少年の方を見る。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
なあ、Theophon、こいつらが死んだっていうのはどれくらい前の話だ？<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
五年くらい前だ。なんでそんなこと聞く？ <br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
何か話をしようと思っただけだよ。<br>
<br>
二人が話す間に、階下ではAelvaがやっと小さな部屋を調べ終え、玄関の扉に鍵をかけるような仕草をする。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
話は前に聞かせてやっただろう？ <br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
いいや、お前は言ったのはこれだけだ、「おい、夜盗を働ける場所を俺は知ってるぜ、そこには誰も住んでないんだ、幽霊以外はな」って。俺はてっきり冗談だと思ったんだ。
<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
冗談なんかじゃない、相棒。五年前、Krately一家がここに住んでたんだ。善良な人たちだった。お前が見たのは娘のAelvaと息子のMinestesだ。両親は、俺の記憶が正しければ、SilenusとDominitiaだ。<br>
<br>
Nirimはたんすの鍵を開けるのに成功し、中をあさり始める。彼がそうしている間に、Ministesはどうやら体が温まったらしく、“火”のそばから立ち上がり、下への階段の降り口に立つ。<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
ねえ！<br>
<br>
少年の声に、Nirim、Theophon、Aelvaの全員が跳び上がる。<br>
<br>
AELVA<br>
どうしてベッドに入っていないの？私はちょっと地下室を確かめに行くだけよ。<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
僕、待ってる。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
それで、何が起こったんだ？ <br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
うん、全員バラバラに引き裂かれたのさ。半分喰われてね。誰がやったのか、何がやったのか、誰にもわからなかった。だが噂があってな......。<br>
<br>
Aelvaは地下室に続く扉を開き、中に入る。一階には明りがなくなる。Ministesは、そっと鼻歌を歌いながら、階段の上でおとなしく待っている。<br>
<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
どんな噂？<br>
<br>
Theophonは衣装だんすを調べ終わり、Nirimがたんすの中の金を選り分けるのを手伝う。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
こりゃ大した収穫じゃないか、ええ？うん、噂か。そうだな、話によると、Dominitia夫人はSilenusと結婚する前は魔女だったそうだ。だが旦那のためにそういう事から一切手を引いた。よい妻、よい母親になるってわけで。だが、魔女たちはそれがあんまりお気に召さなかったんだ。それでDominitiaを見つけ出して、何かの生き物を、夜中にここに送り込んだ。何か身の毛のよだつようなやつ、悪夢からそのまんま抜け出してきたようなやつだ。<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Aelva？ねえAelva、どうしてそんなに時間がかかってるの？<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
なんてこった、俺たちの目の前であいつらが殺されるのを見ることになるっていうのか？<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
Aelva！<br>
<br>
SILENUS（舞台外）<br>
下で何をやってるんだい？坊や、遊ぶのはやめて早く寝なさい。<br>
<br>
MINISTES<br>
パパ！<br>
<br>
Ministesはおびえた様子で階上への階段に駆け寄る。途中でNirimにぶつかり、Nirimは倒れる。少年は気づいた様子もなく、そのまま暗い三階の寝室へ駆け上がり、舞台外へ消える。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
大丈夫か？<br>
<br>
Nirimは跳ねるように立ち上がる。真っ青な顔。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
そんなことはいい！あいつ、俺にさわったぞ？！どうして幽霊のくせに俺にさわれるんだ？！<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
そうさな......。もちろんさわれるさ。少なくとも中にはそういうのもいる。墓を守る祖霊だとか、Daggerfallにいた王の幽霊だとかの話は、お前も聞いたことがあるだろう。もしそいつらが生きてる奴にさわれないんなら、何の役にも立たないじゃないか？何をそんなに驚いてるんだ？たぶん、あいつがお前を通り抜けると思ったんだろ。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
そうだよ！!<br>
<br>
この家の主人SILENUSが、用心深く階段を降りてくる。<br>
<br>
DOMINITIA （舞台外）<br>
Silenus、私たちだけにしないで！一緒に行くわ！<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
待った、こっちは暗い。明かりを取ってくるよ。<br>
<br>
Silenusは冷え切った暖炉へ行き、手を差し出す。すると突然、明るく燃えるたいまつが彼の手に現れる。Nirimは仰天して後ずさる。<br>
<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
今、感じたぞ！火の熱さを感じた！<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
降りておいで。大丈夫だ。<br>
<br>
Ministesが母親のDOMINITIAを導いて階段を降りてくる。二人はSilenusと合流する。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
何でお前がそんなに怖がるのかわからないな、Nirim。がっかりしたぜ。お前が迷信家だとは思わなかったよ。<br>
<br>
Theophonは階上への階段の方に進む。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
どこに行くんだ？ <br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
探す場所があと一階残ってるからな。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
もう帰らないか？<br>
<br>
Nirimが見守る中、Silenusと彼のたいまつを先頭に、家族三人は一階に降りて行く。<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Aelva？返事をしなさい、Aelva。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
ほら、わかったか？幽霊が嫌いだっていうんなら、行くべき場所は三階だ。あいつら四人とも、今は下の階だ。<br>
<br>
Theophonは階段を昇り、舞台外に消える。しかしNirimは階段の上から一家を見下ろしている。三人は、Aelvaがしたように一階を見回った後、最後に地下室の扉の方を見る。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
あいつら......四人？<br>
<br>
Silenusは地下室の扉を開ける。<br>
<br>
<br>
SILENUS<br>
Aelva？おーい、地下室で何をしてるんだ？<br>
<br>

Theophon、もし幽霊が五人だったら？！<br>

Silenusは地下室の戸口からたいまつを差し入れる。すると突然火が消える。一階は暗闇に包まれる。<br>
<br>
Ministes、Dominitia、Silenusの三人が叫び声を上げる。しかし、何が起きているのか、我々には見えない。<br>
<br>
Nirimはほとんどヒステリックになって、三人と一緒に叫び声を上げる。Theophonが三階から駆け降りてくる。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
どうした？！<br>

NIRIM<br>
もしも幽霊が五人だったらどうする？！親父、おふくろ、娘、息子……それに、一家を殺したやつがいたら？！<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
ほう、それであいつらを殺したやつってのは何なんだ？<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
それにもし、そいつも俺たちにさわれる幽霊だったら？ほかのやつらみたいに！<br>
<br>
真っ暗な一階から、開く扉のきしむ音が聞こえる。しかし我々には何も見えない。その時、重い、かぎづめの足音が聞こえる。一歩、また一歩と、階段に近づいてくる。<br>
<br>
THEOPHON<br>
そんなに取り乱すなよ。たとえそいつが俺たちにさわれるとしてもだな、俺たちにさわろうとするってどうしてわかるんだ？ほかのやつらは俺たちがいることに気づきもしなかったんだぞ。<br>
<br>
Theophonのランタンが少し暗くなる。彼は注意深くランタンを調節する。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
だけどもし……もしそいつが幽霊じゃなかったら？おい、Theophon。もしそいつが例の生き物で、まだ生きてるんだとしたら……しかもそいつは五年前から何にも食べてないんだ……。<br>
<br>
足音は、ゆっくりと重い音を立てて階段を昇り始める。その正体が何であれ、我々には見えない。Nirimは、Theophonが必死になって調節しているにもかかわらず、ランタンの明りが暗くなっていくのに気づく。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
お前、油を入れて来たって言っただろ！<br>
<br>
明りは完全に消えてしまう。舞台は暗闇に包まれる。<br>
<br>
NIRIM<br>
ランプに油を入れてきたって、お前、保証したじゃないか！<br>
<br>
足音は続く。そして恐ろしい、恐ろしい咆哮。盗賊二人は絶叫を上げる。<br>
<br>
幕。<br>
